At Old Mill Entertainment, we're exploring how emerging AI tools can expand what's possible in independent production without abandoning the fundamentals of filmmaking.
One principle we've developed is something we call Prompt to Edit™
Filmmakers have long understood the idea of shooting to edit: don't simply capture a scene, capture the coverage an editor needs to build it. Establishing shots. Close-ups. Inserts. Reactions. Alternate angles. Details.
We approach generative filmmaking the same way.
Rather than asking AI to create a finished sequence, we prompt for coverage. We generate the individual pieces of a scene with the edit already in mind, then shape those pieces through traditional editorial decisions involving pacing, performance, sound, music, color and story.
Prompt to Edit™ means using AI like a production tool, not asking it to be the filmmaker.
Old Mill Entertainment put these ideas into practice with Stun City TV, our first AI-assisted feature-length production. Designed to feel like a forgotten late-night broadcast pulled from an old VHS tape, the film recreates the look of local television, commercials, public-access programming, and low-budget video from the 1980s and ’90s—combining generative tools with hands-on editing, sound, music, and post-production to create an intentionally aged, analog aesthetic.
Prompt to Edit™ is an Old Mill Entertainment production methodology.
